Listening Games

Sit really still and listen. Can you hear the traffic outside, or sounds inside the house? Paying attention to different sounds is one of the fundamental skills of communication. This type of game will help children focus on particular sounds they may not otherwise notice.

Make noisemakers

Collect containers and part fill them with different objects, for example buttons, rice, pasta. Put the lids on and secure them with tape. Shake the containers and encourage your child to listen to the different sounds, talk about loud and quiet noises. Use words to describe the sounds. This will help children develop vocabulary around the noises that they hear.
