PE - Teaching on a page
All primary schools receive a grant through the PE and Sport premium. At Creswell C of E Infant & Nursery School we use this grant to deliver engaging, challenging and high quality PE curriculum to all children.
During 2024, the grant has been put towards employing qualified skilled sport coaches to work with our teachers to deliver PE to all children. Our sports coaches also run after school clubs which focus on fundamentals, team games and competitive sports. In addition we employ a dance teacher for weekly PE lessons, team teaching with the class teachers to develop dance skills. This teacher also runs a fun after school club.
The impact of the way we sue the sports grant is that all children at Creswell Infant and Nursery School benefit from high quality PE provision for school staff and sports experts. Our aim is for all children to receive at least 2 hours of PE each week. In addition to this we are developing our play times to promote activity and exercise. We also encourage active learning throughout the curriculum and incorporate brain breaks throughout the day.
Our children are learning PE through a skills-based curriculum, which means that children gain new skills each year and are taught the basics early on. Our teachers are passionate about their subjects, so children gain enthusisam and positivity towards physical exercise and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. This in turn has a positive effect on self-esteem and well-being of all children.
You can find full details of how we use this grant in our PE and Sport Premium Funding Strategy below.
Real PE
We subscribe to the Real PE scheme to support our Physical Education (PE) curriculum. Real PE is a unique, child-centred approach. It has transformed how we teach PE to engage and challenge EVERY child in our school.
The scheme focuses on the fundamental movement skills for a child's physical development - Agility, Balance and Co-ordination
Real PE develops the whole child, each term there is a multi ability focus:
- Personal
- Social
- Cognitive
- Creative
- Physical
- Health and Fitness
Daily Mile
Each day the children run for 10 mins in 'The Daily Mile'. The aim is to improve physical social, emotional and mental health and wellbeing of our children regardless of age, ability or personal circumstances. Case studies have shown that the daily mile hels to increase interest in their health and wellbeing, increased focus in leassons and improved behaviour. Children are asked to run or jog at their own pace, in the fresh air, with their friends. Children are allowed to walk to catch their breath but should aim to run or jog for as much of the 10minutes as they can. Each class runs the daily mile at a different time of the day.
