Design and technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, pupils design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. They acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. High-quality design and technology education makes an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.
Design & Technology Curriculum Statement
Our carefully sequenced Progression Grids have been developed by subject leaders at our school. They outline key knowledge, skills and vocabulary the children will develop in each subject in each year from Nursery to Year 2. These plans are subject to change as we continually hone and develop our curriculum to ensure they are the best they can be to meet the needs of our children.
Design & Technology Progression Grid
At Creswell C of E Infant & Nursery School, we recognise that our pupils learn best when curriculum subjects are taught consistently well across the school, led by subject leaders who support teachers to develop expertise.
To support staff we have encompassed everything they would need to know on one page. We call these Teaching on a page.
We hope these documents will also support parents/carers understand how we structure our lessons and what our expectations are for each curriculum lesson.

Design & Technology SEND adaptations
We are determined that every child at Creswell C of E Infant and Nursery School will develop the knowledge and skills they need to succeed, and that they will be enthused and able to take ownership of their own learning. For all subjects our subject leaders have developed SEND adaptations, which are strategies for supporting children with Special Education needs and Disabilities within lessons.
